While we were out scouting locations for a portrait shoot, we came across this beautiful Maple at the height of autumn colors. Located in Stilwell, Kansas. The storm was building to the east, but there was still some sun breaking though behind me as I shot this. The simple composition of this image has become a favorite.

This image was captured in 2019 along the famed Kebler Pass that is west of Crested Butte, Colorado.
Initially this image was hidden in our master files for several years as we concentrated on some of our other Kebler Pass images.. Therefore this is a “new” image for our website and customers. I was really happy to rediscover this photograph. It makes a beautiful metal print!
Chris named it “Aspen Elegance”. I wanted to name it “The Birds” because the trademark Aspen knots, that usually look like eyes, look like birds in flight on this image. Chris usually wins.

One of the most popular images in our collection. This photo was taken along Kebler Pass west of Crested Butte, Colorado, which is one of the most beautiful and largest aspen groves in Colorado. We loved the broken afternoon light on the trunks and the backdrop of peak colors in the background. The eye is always watching.

Whoever comes up with the names of butterflies should be arrested. For several years, we have been calling this a Monarch Butterfly. After a keen eye (my sister-in-law) saw this photo, she thought it may actually be a Painted Lady. So we hit up Google and discovered it is actually a Variegated Fritillary. Just flows off the tongue huh? Never the less it’s a beauty. Chris and I decided to just name it The Meadow Butterfly. Take that!

We were out exploring some meadows near Pagosa Springs, Colorado in 2014 when we came across some of these giant Dandy Lions. With just a light puff, we captured this image. One of our favorite images from the trip, and one of our most popular prints.

This beautiful purple Lupine was photographed along a trail in Montana in 2017. I always love to shoot my wildflower shots with a very shallow depth of field and find angles so I can get interesting shapes and colors in the background.

This is one of our most popular images and prints up beautifully in all formats. It was shot on a family hike near Big Sky, Montana. The size of mountain dandylions are amazing. This one was perfect, and we shot it during a light mist that added some small moisture drops to the dandelion.

We were blessed with an abundance of hawks and eagles at our old house in Stilwell, Kansas. This Red Shouldered Hawk was perched on top of a dead branch on an old tree across the street from us. I was able to use a long lens to capture this image. I think he knew I was shooting and gave me some kind of hawk glare.

We captured this image while on a family hike near Big Sky, Montana. I find this the best time to shoot wildflowers. We came upon this beautiful patch of wildflowers after a light rain. I love the opportunity to focus on a single flower with the other flowers soft but framing the scene.

These are the oldest images in our collection, and two of my favorites. These ducks were shot in the winter of 1984 at The Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri. Shot on 35 mm Black and White Tri-X film, you can feel the grain of this classic Kodak film. I love how the ducks interacted, the symmetry, and the combination of ice and water.
These two images will only be sold as a matched pair.

This amazing and lucky capture was shot at the Lake of The Ozarks in central Missouri. These two feisty Hummingbirds were a little upset with who would have the rights to the nectar that was nearby. There were literally dozens of these little beauties flying around when I camped out with my camera to try and get some images. One of my favorite photographs ever, and it pairs up great with the photo we call “Wide Open”, also in our gallery.

This photograph, captured at the same time as “Winged Battle”, was shot at the Lake of The Ozarks in central Missouri. Shooting Hummingbirds requires some quick reflexes and having the camera set to freeze motion as best as possible. They do not stick around for long. Capturing these incredible little birds in focus is the biggest challenge. With the morning backlight and sparkly green bokah, this is one of my favorite images.

This image was shot on our hike around Lily Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was snowing as we started our hike so the pines were covered with this fresh snow. I loved how the snow collected in this branch tip. Nature’s beauty.

This image comes from our hike around Lily Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park on a cold snowy day in March, 2022. All the pine trees were dusted perfectly with a couple inches of fresh snow and the simple compositions were so perfect for photographs.

On our hike to the top of Pagosa Peak near Pagosa Springs, Colorado, we came across these beautiful Columbine flowers. Once again I love to shoot with a shallow depth of field for these types of images. I had the opportunity to get a very low angle of the flowers with the forest back lit in the background. The flowers were in perfect shape. Classic Colorado mountain wildflowers.

These little beauties grew wild on our previous property in Stilwell, KS. The backside of our home was massive limestone boulders and the Wild Red Columbine grew out of cracks and crevices in the stones. They were only in full bloom for a few weeks, and after admiring their beauty for 30 years, I finally went out and captured some images.

This beautiful stream was close to where our family camped out on our trip to Montana in 2017. Just an early morning stroll with my camera. I loved the way the sunlight backlit the trees and sparkled the water.

Chris and I paid a visit to the Overland Park, Kansas Arboretum early in the fall. We worked our way on to the paths that wandered through the woods, on the far edge of the property. I loved how this path snaked through the trees. The wind was blowing, the leaves were falling, it was a beautiful fall day and hike. And a beautiful setting.

These beautiful Maple leaves were collected in our front yard in Spring Hill, Kansas on Halloween night 2023 while I was waiting for the trick or treating to start showing up. There was such a variety of colors in the leaves as they were transitioning to their peak. I placed them on a rock in our landscaping and couldn’t resist shooting them. More of a still life scene, but I really love it. It’s already printed, matted and displayed in our house.

I found this nest laying on the ground near our home when we lived in Spring Hill, Kansas. I wanted to do a more still life approach with it so Chris and I went out to a park and found these beautiful acorns on the ground. It was sort of symbolic for us since we had three kids in the nest for so long. The maple leaves were an added touch because of their beautiful colors. We don’t shoot a lot of staged photographs, but this one we really wanted to do.

This photo was taken on the historic Alpine Tunnel Trail near the ghost towns of St. Elmo and Hancock, Colorado. As we stopped for lunch I noticed these beautiful and perfect little pinecones everywhere. I love to shoot with a very shallow depth of field when I am shooting these types of subjects. I placed them on a rock with the distant mountain range as the backdrop.

I was out on our deck in Stilwell, Kansas, watching a thunderstorm roll in. I noticed this Red Tailed Hawk perched on a dead limb across the street. Our house sat high above the road and I was on about the same level as it was. I had time to go in the house and grab my camera and get several exposures of this beautiful bird while it too was taking in the storm. I loved thew way the trees in the foreground framed it.
