The incomparable views at Molas Lake, near Silverton, Colorado are on display with this image taken at sunrise in the summer of 2023. We camped in the campground surrounding the lake, and were up before dawn all three days we were there shooting this same angle. This is our favorite image taken as the sun had just risen over the mountains to the east and started to warm the pine trees on the opposite shore. The lake was like glass with the only ripples coming from some hungry trout breaking the surface.
This wider ratio version of Molas Lake Sunrise is only available as a 22” X 40” Metal Print in either a glossy or matte finish.
This is the exact metal print we sell at the art fairs.
Check our Selected Works Page for existing stock.
While on an early spring hike near Williams Lake, north of Pagosa Springs, Chris and I settled into a little grove of Aspens for lunch. I looked up and saw this composition of Aspen trunks. I decided to use a very shallow depth of field to give the image a point of focus and let the blue tones of the distant mountains add a splash of color to the image.

On a recent trip to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, in early spring, we were out at one of our favorite locations looking for some new images. It was a gray rainy day and the clouds were awesome all around us. But it was when we turned around and saw this little shack up against the wall of aspens, that we knew we had a really cool shot. The Aspens had yet to bloom and they created this beautiful backdrop. Back in the "lab" I decided to make this a black and white image.

We had been waiting for some snow to come to shoot this image. Although it wasn’t a huge snowfall, it was enough to set the mood for this scene. The clouds and light snowfall quickly erased the larger mountains that would’ve been in the background, but the smaller mountain covered in pines remained. The red barn isolated in the larger pines, with the old fences criss crossing the foreground made for a very beautiful scene and image capture.

This image was captured in the afternoon near Pagosa Springs, Colorado. We were experiencing a "100 year flood" event on the nearby San Juan River. Chris and I noticed the clouds had started to mix into the pines and we hopped into our car and drove a few miles up the road to capture some images. We were able to get three of our favorite new images in a short period of time, including this image. It was really beautiful and so moody despite the rain pouring down as we shot. When we returned to our "cabin" the San Juan River had overflowed its banks and was creeping quickly towards our road and driveway. Shortly after that we were evacuated.

After a light snowfall, we went out looking for some beautiful new mountain images. We ventured off of the main highway on to a snow packed side road and found this scene. While we experienced mostly very heavy cloud cover that obscured the surrounding mountains, there was brief period where the clouds thinned and a tiny bit of sunshine filtered through to give the trees a touch of warmth.

On a magic hour drive near our new hometown of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, we came across this horse standing in a pasture. There was a dusting of snow on Pagosa Peak in the background and the warm rays of the late afternoon sun was giving the trees a beautiful variety of colors.

This shot of the beautiful Monarch Lake, just south and east of Lake Granby was photographed in September 2022. It was our third trip to the lake while we were staying in the area. There’s an easy four mile hike around the lake that is quite popular, and very beautiful, but if you get there early enough in the morning, you can have it to yourself. As we arrived early on a Saturday morning, the water was perfectly still and the reflections were amazing.

This beautiful meadow is located in Rocky Mountain National Park on the East Inlet Trail. The trailhead is just east of Grand Lake, Colorado.
Chris and I were up well before dawn to hike to this location and be set up to capture this shot as the sun rose behind the mountains. Shot in September 2022.

Following a heavy snow fall, We came across this stunning scene of rolling mountain terrain covered in snow. As the sun began to drop on the western horizon, the long light gave the contours a distinct look. The shadows fell into a blue tint and the composition worked perfectly for a wide ratio image

On a golden hour photo expedition following a heavy snow fall, this was the final image we captured that evening. We noticed the colors on the mountain range that sits to the east of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. We drove to the top of a hill to get a better view. While the truck was stopped in the middle of this snowy road, I hopped out and captured this beautiful sunset right before it disappeared.. The two peaks are “Blackhead” to the Left, and “Squaretop to the right. We had been looking for a way to capture a cool image of this dominant mountain range since we moved here. It makes a beautiful print that anyone living or visiting Pagosa Springs in the winter months will recognize.

We were up before dawn to capture this image. I had noticed this scene on several occasions as we explored the roads northeast of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. I always love fence lines and I knew the sunrise could be very beautiful as it poked through the mountains in the background. This is the black and white, 2:1 version.

This image was taken in Rocky Mountain National Park in the winter of 2022. One minute it was snowing, the next it was beautiful and sunny. I caught this image while the pines were full of fresh snow and the sun had just broken through the clouds. And as I was framing the shot, some snow fell through the pines to give this a magical moment.

One of the most popular images in our collection. This photo was taken along Kebler Pass west of Crested Butte, Colorado, which is one of the most beautiful and largest aspen groves in Colorado. We loved the broken afternoon light on the trunks and the backdrop of peak colors in the background. The eye is always watching.

This image was captured in 2019 along the famed Kebler Pass that is west of Crested Butte, Colorado.
Initially this image was hidden in our master files for several years as we concentrated on some of our other Kebler Pass images.. Therefore this is a “new” image for our website and customers. I was really happy to rediscover this photograph. It makes a beautiful metal print!
Chris named it “Aspen Elegance”. I wanted to name it “The Birds” because the trademark Aspen knots, that usually look like eyes, look like birds in flight on this image. Chris usually wins.

While exploring some backroads near our home in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, we drove past this 4wd escape road of the road we were on. We hit the brakes, hopped out and captured this image. We loved how the small grove of Aspens close to their autumn peak framed the old road and how some of the Aspen leaves had covered the ground.

On a stormy morning in the San Juan Mountains, we drove to this location not sure what we would find. We had been shooting variations of this scene for several days and we saw the clouds had lowered into the hills so we had to go look. It was amazing. When printed large, you see so many cool details in the shot, like the little black birds on the fences. One of our favorite new images.

This image was taken on July 18, 2014 in the San Juan Mountains north of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. The same location as our image “A Thin Place”which was shot exactly six years later. There was a haze from some nearby wildfires that gave the mountains a dreamy haze.

On a rainy day in the fall near Pagosa Springs, Colorado, we happened upon this scene. We loved how the colors blended together. Chris says that it makes her want to bake pumpkin bread. We were in Wyoming at Jenny Lake in the early spring. This is a view of Mt. St. John as it was poking through the clouds. The Tetons are a spectacular mountain range to see, and Jenny lake was beautiful as well. While we were not there on a photography expedition, I did have my camera and was able to capture this ethereal image.

I loved how this image translated to Black and White. This image was taken as a 30 second exposure while the storm was rolling our way. The drama of the clouds and the effects of the water using the long exposure made for a very dramatic scene.

On our recent trip to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park in the winter of 2022, Chris and I came upon this scene of Bull Elk as we were leaving the park in a very heavy snowstorm. I jumped out of the car and shot this handheld, with the heavy snow keeping me from getting a super sharp focus on the Elk. But that also added to the mood of the image. We went back a couple of times to try and duplicate this shot but since they are Elk and not paid talent, they were not there... Despite the snow “filter” this instantly became one of our favorites, and also one of the most popular images in our collection.

“Where the distance between heaven and earth collapses”.
This location has a very special meaning to us. Located north of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, it is a view of the San Juan Mountains. We first came across this location while on a family vacation in July 2014, when we were plotting our route to hike Pagosa Peak.
We returned to Pagosa Springs in 2020 on another family vacation, and once again on our last evening there, we returned to this location to photograph the sunset. It was magical that evening, once again.

We have photographed here several times, but never in winter. After a beautiful heavy snow blanketed the mountains in February 2026, we made the trip to the location to see how it looked. It was beautiful and unique with the snow cover and the clouds shrouding the mountains in the background. The little shack that sits in the center of “A Thin Place” was catching the last few rays of sunlight.

When we are out shooting landscapes, we are very focused on the many things that go into perfecting the photo. Mostly we get the shot and move on. But sometime we have time to look around, and on occasion we find an unexpected perspective of our surroundings. This is how we found this image.
While Russ was shooting a very cool contoured hillside, Chris turned her camera the other direction and captured this lone pine on the hillside behind us. We love these little surprises!
** Due to the unique size, this image is only available in a 12X36 Metal Print with a frame mount (see sample below). Available in Gloss or Matte Finish.
This beautiful view in Rocky Mountain National Park features Longs Peak in the distance. The snow had held off for a day, the sun was shining, but it was really windy and bitterly cold that early morning we were at this vista. The boulders provided a bit of a wind break and I was able to capture this image before the cold chased us off.

This mountain in Southwest Colorado has special meaning to Chris, who worked at a ranch that was in the shadows of Bristol Head when she was younger. Her family also made numerous trips to this area for their family vacations.
This photograph was shot the same morning we shot the “North Clear Creek Falls”image in the spring of 2022. Right before this photo was taken, Chris was watching a momma Elk in the little clearing across the canyon. She called me up to this viewpoint to see. By the time I got there, the Elk was gone but I was taken by this view. I loved the light from the early morning sun as it started to rise over the mountains to the east, with the clouds looking a bit angry above Bristol Head.

This photograph is from our trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in March of 2022. We kept driving by this lone Spruce tree sitting in the field of reddish bushes. I loved how it was just standing by itself with all of it’s buddies in the background. It was snowing lightly this particular morning we were driving by, and it was perfect.

We found this beautiful setting after a short hike on the Molas Lake to Animas River Trail near Silverton, Colorado. There was a smaller trail that led off to an area where you could see this little pond and the three peaks in the distance. We returned at sunrise the next morning. At first we did not see the mist moving on the pond, but as the sun began to rise the scene became more beautiful. We just waited for this little band of clouds to work there way into our shot. For the Rocky Mountain National Park lovers. We walked to this well know RMNP location on Sprague Lake in the winter of 2022. The image was taken right after fresh snow had fallen and blanketed the pines and the frozen lake. Hallet Peak was still getting dusted as the sun broke through the clouds to give us this beautiful image.

We were invited onto this private location to look for possible images to capture, and we instantly found a beauty. This classic western fence line was at the perfect angle to feature the iconic Pagosa Peak in the background.
This is a sunset version. In this angle the old wooden fence had broken down completely in a few areas. The clouds that evening were beautiful, and the details in Pagosa Peak were wonderful.

After a recent snow “dump” here in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, we went out to find some new winter scenes to photograph. We wanted to stop by one of our previously photographed summer locations to se how it looked. It was beautiful. By the time we arrived the sun was setting and Pagosa Peak was slightly shrouded by clouds. The sun had just dropped low enough that the meadow and fence line in the foreground had become shadowed. You can really feel the warmth of the winter sun on the trees and peaks.

There was a crooked shed, that had a crooked fence. I have been looking at this shed and fence line for years. Ever since we started visiting Pagosa Springs, Colorado and driving into the mountains north of town looking for critters and taking in the scenery. Chris and I finally stopped and shot it. I love the lines of the two features in this image. Believe it or not the camera was perfectly level when I shot this.

This iconic waterfall in Southwest Colorado should be on everyones must see list if you visit the Lake City or Creede, Colorado areas. This was shot right after the sun cleared the mountains to the east. I wanted it full sun, and with the crisp blues skies. And from the lower, less photographed angle. We shot this image in the spring of 2022. I originally shot this waterfall in the late 1980’s on film with my old Canon AE1 with a long exposure. It was one of my favorite images but somehow the negatives got lost through the years. So it was on my list to revisit the location and recreate the shot I had. This is it.

This image was captured south of Lake City, Colorado from the Windy Point Scenic Overlook on Slumgullion Pass. We waited out this beautiful sunset with the rugged and majestic Uncompahgre Peak as the centerpiece, standing at 14,309 ft tall.
Photographed in June of 2022, this is the long lens version of our evening shoot that just focuses on Uncompahgre Peak and it’s surrounding mountains. You can see the “Slumgullian Slide” in the foreground hills.

This is another image from our shoot while in the San Juan Mountains in 2014. This version features the small mountain shack on the hillside. With the smoke from the distant fires giving the hills the mood, it felt like a great option for a Black and White treatment.

We love exploring the side roads you discover in the mountains. While parked near a trailhead at the end of this particular road, we caught this young Doe wandering out of the trees on to the dusty road near sunset. I loved how the road gave us a couple of S turns, and the Autumn leaves were near their peak. Que the deer!

Photographed from the shores of Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park. The spectacular and Rugged Tetons are rising in the background on a stormy morning. Cascade Canyon snakes through the mountains from the opposite shore. The lower rocks in the center of the image are also know as Inspiration Point.

This early morning scene was captured near the Williams Creek Reservoir north of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. It had been very stormy for the days leading up this moment, and we were set up and ready to shoot as daybreak came. Although we did shoot until the sun lit up the meadow, we loved how the pre sunrise clouds were wrapping the mountains and the colors in the trees and meadow had a very dreamy feel.
