This is the Sunset version of our Molas Lake camping adventure in July of 2023. Near Silverton, Colorado, this is some of the most beautiful scenery in the San Juan Mountains.

The sunrise version, simply titled Molas Lake Sunrise, was taken from the same location the following morning.

I instantly fell in love with the morning scene and let this sit in the files for months. Now I’m wondering why. At first I tried some long exposures because the wind was whipping up the lake and I thought it would look cool, but eventually I turned to multiple images in HDR to capture all the colors of the scene. The clouds drifted in perfectly as the sun set behind us.
