Flint Hills Sentry

One of the most beautiful and scenic locations in the state of Kansas is the Flint Hills.

I first discovered this location while making a short film about the Flint Hills in 2014 which can be seen here: “Standing Tallgrass”.

At that time, I was able to get a beautiful shot of wild horses grazing in these hills.

We returned in the spring of 2022 and drove to the location. We first photographed “Flint Hills Wild Horses”, which had two horses, and is a more vertical composition. After one of the horses moved on, I captured this lone horse at the top of the hill. At first I was disappointed I couldn’t get closer. But when I got back to my computers, I quickly discovered this was the perfect shot.
